Why You Should Install a Boiler Heating System Before Winter

Fall is the time of year when homeowners start to get their homes ready for the cold of winter. For most people, that means scheduling heating maintenance and conducting other repairs. For some people, though, it means installing an entirely new heating system. If you’re in the market for a new heater, consider installing a boiler system this fall. Let’s take a look at how a boiler system can help keep your home warm this winter.

How Boiler Heating Systems Work

Boiler heaters use pipe networks to distribute heat. These pipes are installed in the walls and subfloors of each room in the house, all linking back to the boiler. Sometimes, there are terminals like iron radiators or baseboard heaters installed as part of the network. The boiler heats water and distributes it throughout the pipe network. As the hot water flows through the pipes, it transmits heat through the wall (or floor) and into the room. This method of heating is known as “radiant” heating.

Advantages of Installing a Boiler System

There are a number of unique advantages to using a boiler-based heating system. A boiler is much more efficient than most other heating systems for a couple of reasons. Traditional forced air heating systems heat a house by pumping hot air through ducts. The problem with that is that air is not a great thermal medium. It takes longer to heat up, and loses heat more quickly than water does. Ducts are also much more prone to leaks, which can result in massive energy losses for the system. The boiler doesn’t have to worry about either of these.
