Plumbing Problems to be Aware of This Summer

During the summer, most people tend to focus on air conditioning issues that may come up due to the added demand. It’s a good idea to be aware of issue like that, of course. However, that’s not the only area of your home that you need to pay attention to. Plumbing issues often develop out of sight, and go unnoticed for months or years until they start to cause serious damage. Don’t make your life harder by letting a plumbing issue creep up on you this summer. Have a look at some common plumbing issues, and how to detect them early.

Leaks

The most common problem that afflicts plumbing systems. Leaks happen for all kinds of reasons, and can cause quite a bit of damage if they are not caught for a while. If you know what to look for, though, you can catch plumbing leaks before they become too much of a problem. The best way to do this is to watch for decreasing water pressure in your pipes. You can also try turning off all plumbing appliances in your home, and watch the water meter. If the water meter is still running, then you might have a leak somewhere in the system.

Lime Scale

Lime scale is a type of mineral deposit caused by hard water, which builds up inside the pipes over time. As the lime scale builds towards the center of the pipe, it restricts the flow of water through it. Keep an eye out for white mineral deposits around your faucets, and in your shower. If lime scale is present in these locations, it is almost certainly in your pipes.
