I had a big tree felt in the back yard. Fortunately the trunk felt on the fence and not the house. However lots of branches felt onto the house and the A/C unit. Removed all old insulation from return duct in attic. Discovered that duct was not fully connected at two joints, and large air gaps existed between the unsecured return elbow as it penetrates the ceiling. Secured all return duct connections. Sealed all return duct seams and connections with mastic tape. Reinsulated entire return duct with r8 bubble wrap. Secured return elbow to joist above return grille. Used metal flashing and silicone sealant to seal all air gaps at ceiling penetration behind return grille. Reinstalled return grille.
